The Bulldog
The Bulldog is one of the most recognizable dogs in the world. They are very well known for their short, squatty look. They are very broad and wide with massive heads. On average, the Bulldog is 12-16 inches tall and weighs 49 to 55 pounds.
Despite their intimidating appearance, Bulldogs are one of the gentlest breeds. However, Bulldogs are also excellent guard dogs and are very quick to ward off an intruder. Beyond possessing courage and guarding abilities, Bulldogs are considered very affectionate and good with children.
Health Problems
As all dogs, Bulldogs have a few common, hereditary health problems, including:
- Breathing problems (some have small windpipes)
- Poor eyesight
- Highly susceptible to heat stroke
- Often have to be delivered by Cesarean section due to broad heads
- Very active digestive systems
- Hip problems
- Knee problems
It is important to be aware of the problems that are common to Bulldogs. This information will allow you to know what health issues to look for, making it easier to catch these problems when they are in their early stages, as well as allow you to help your dog lead a long and healthy life.
Exercise
The desire to exercise likely varies from dog to dog. Some would like to lie around the house all day while others are full of energy. Either way, Bulldogs do need to be taken out for daily walks just like any pet. Bulldogs are less likely to want to run, but are capable of doing so for short bursts.
