Getting a Tortoise

If you are looking to becoming a reptile owner, want an animal resistant to many forms of salmonella, and one that is unlikely to escape or get lost in the house, then a tortoise might be the pet for you.

While classified as an exotic creature, tortoises come in all sizes, have many breeds, and live for many years. Even though they are extremely protected animals thanks to their scales and shells, it is important to take good care of these animals. There are two simple steps to do to make your tortoise feel at home and live a healthy life.

Making a Home

It is important that the surroundings in which you house your tortoise is well made and in keeping with what a tortoise finds comfortable.

Tortoise love having a place to cool off in, so a clean, fresh water cool is always a must. But because these reptiles do not spend all their time in the water, set up some rocks and ramps to give them a way to exercise their lungs and rest on land.

Feeding

Tortoises naturally hibernate and eat very little, very rarely. They are from the age of the dinosaurs, so their bodies are able to take stress well. However, for tortoises, they like to eat small piece of meat and a variety of vegetables.

With these two things taken care of, your new pet will feel at home and comfortable with their new surroundings.
